Battlefield 4: 10 Ways It Can Topple Call Of Duty

9. Massive Multiplayer Battles

There was one major reason that Battlefield 3 was so amazing, and it's not the graphics (though they certainly didn't hurt). Battlefield 3 allowed for up to 64 player combat on the PC, making for some of the most frantic, exciting and downright entertaining multiplayer moments I've ever had from any game. Even on the PC, Call of Duty has never even tried to compete with that sort of scale, likely because they know their audience and what they like; small maps that allow for fast-paced mayhem that you can jump in and out of at a moment's notice. Battlefield 4 needs to continue to evolve and ensure that Call of Duty devotees won't be able to resist but "change brands" as it were. How to do this? Make things even more intense. If 64 player battles were achievable on PC tech that's now getting relatively dated, should it not be possible for the PS4 and Xbox 720 (the former of which we know has a PC architecture) to accommodate something in excess of this? 128 players might be a little too ambitious, but given the battle scale of games like Planetside 2, I'm sure something sizable would certainly be achievable on the high-tech kits that will comprise next-gen consoles.
