Battlefield 4: 10 Ways It Can Topple Call Of Duty

8. Optimise Multiplayer For Consoles

It's all well and good trying to make a 128-player map for PC gamers, but developers must be aware of the limitations that consoles have, even ones that could be as potentially impressive as the PS4 and Xbox 720. PCs are always going to be King, and things will always have to be "toned down" for consoles, though with Battlefield 3, they demonstrated how to do that without compromising the potential of the PC counterpart. One need only look at the above comparison image to see how poorly the console versions of Battlefield 3 (on the left) compare to the PC version (on the right); it's like night and day, and though we love to be optimistic about new hardware, there's no doubting that the PC will always be capable of more. What I'm calling for is simply greater optimisation; if the chasm in quality between the nascent console version and the PC equivalent has to be so wide, maybe just don't release it on consoles.
