Black Ops 2: 10 Reasons CoD is No Longer the King of Online Multiplayer

5. Third-person: the New First-Person?

You can probably chalk this up to personal preference, but there€™s something more satisfying about third-person multiplayer, especially when character customisation is involved. I want to see my toon, and not just when he€™s lying dead after a cheap knife kill. This is one of the reasons I€™m still playing Red Dead Redemption and GTA IV online after all, one of the reasons I€™m getting heavily into Max Payne 3€™s multiplayer. Years back, if I was playing a shooter, I was playing a first person shooter; third-person versions often seemed diluted, as though it wasn€™t me doing the shooting, but some guy who I was controlling €“ also, having to control the camera was an extra thing to think about, and I maybe wasn€™t as good at that then as I am now. These days though (after the aforementioned games in particular) my preference has shifted. For some reason, first-person shooters bore me right off the bat, unless they prove themselves awesome. But with the CoD series (and undoubtedly Black Ops 2) representing just more of the same, I think the next first-person shooter I get heavily involved with will be Half Life 3.
