Call Of Duty: 15 Iconic Moments That Confirm Its Genius
6. Modern Warfare Price Attempts To Assassinate Zakhaev
'All Ghillied Up' is perhaps the greatest individual mission in the series. In it you take control of the legendary Captain Price 15 years prior to the events of Modern Warfare in order to assassinate Imran Zakhaev. The actual mission itself is a highly-scripted stealth section in which you follow your AI companion's orders to the letter to avoid death. Whilst this may seem pretty boring, it makes a nice break to the gung-ho attitude of the other missions. The actual genius of it all relies on the setting: Pripyat home to the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. The atmosphere is eerie. Grey skies and unkempt grass oppress you whilst the barks of starving dogs echo somewhere in the distance. It's the perfect place for an assassination and serves as a perfect allegory for just how dangerous nuclear power (and by that logic nuclear weapons) can be. Thanks to this legendary mission we have been subject scripted stealth missions in all subsequent games, and even a Spec Ops mission in Modern Warfare 2 mimicking this one, proving this is the first and best of the bunch. There's no such thing as too much stealth, and this level surely proves it.
I’ve been a film fan for as long as I can remember, with one of my earliest memories watching my dad’s copy of Star Wars one rainy afternoon in the mid-nineties. Then the 21st century happened, and my interests developed from there – mainly including comics and video-games, and recently an introduction into WWE. It’s a good time for popular culture.
