Coming with the information that the next release will return to the boots-on-the-ground approach of previous COD games, it was also revealed that Treyarch's title will massively dial back the sci-fi elements present in the likes of Infinite Warfare.

While there wasn't much elaboration on the topic, it probably means the plot will be keeping far away from robotic exo-suits, space battles, and sci-fi technology in general.

The previous Black Ops leaned heavily on sci-fi tech to tell its convoluted plot about brain transfers and near-death experiences, but the eventual story wasn't fondly remembered.

The developer's games are at their best when they're delving heavily into gritty tales of government backstabbing and military espionage that have a slight fantasy edge to them, and hopefully they'll return to that winning approach with the upcoming sequel.
