As a consequence of Infinity Ward altering the feel of guns in Modern Warfare to accommodate their focus on realistic shooting mechanics, it seems as though semi-auto rifles and burst-fire weapons are going to be more viable than ever.

In the past, there have been a few standout guns in this class, namely the M1 Garand in WW2 and the G3 in the original Modern Warfare, but here there'll be a bigger focus on them, as the gameplay demands tighter accuracy and less firing at full-auto and hoping you hit something. To encourage this as well, the devs have upped the headshot multiplier in an attempt to get players to pick their shots and play smartly.

It's not that the other weapons are going to be made redundant, but with the benefits of aiming accurately and the larger maps in general, players who enjoy having full control over semi-auto shooting should find themselves right at home.
