Dark Souls 2: 10 Gaming Tropes You Quickly Need To Unlearn In Preparation
5. Pay To Win!
The sort of things that some companies try to pull in terms of micro-transactions is just cringe worthy. A personal favourite of mine was on Fable 3, where you had the option to buy a frickin' YULE HAT for £2! The Yule Hat had no bearing on the strength of one's character, so it wasn't a major issue. However, it becomes a problem when a game is essentially 'Pay to win' - where you have to option to purchase more powerful items using real money, items which give you an unfair advantage over other players. 'Pay to win' is becoming far too prominent in the current gaming climate - praise the sun, then, that there are still companies who refuse to indulge is such money laundering activity. The good folk of FromSoftware laugh at the idea of micro-transactions, and for that, they most certainly get a huzzah. Every weapon, piece of armour, and item will be available in game, and this will almost certainly remain consistent, so it's an even playing field for everyone. FromSoftware are also opposed to the idea of DLC. 'Artorias of the Abyss', the DLC for Dark Souls 1, was a great success, but the developers were initially reluctant to make it. However, they would have been foolish not to, as there was such a super high level of demand. They like to release games in its most complete state, where DLC is essentially already in the game, so expect this to be the case for Dark Souls II.
