4. Up: An Effective Continuation/Escalation Of The Series

It's been 6 years since the last Darksiders, but even after more than half a decade and a developer switch, the game feels like a smooth, effective continuation of the series. Without missing a beat, Darksiders 3 doesn't let its tumultuous development cycle show.

This easily could've been a misstep in an attempt to kickstart the franchise again after its hiatus, but Gunfire Games do seem to recognize the things that make the series work and made an effort to retain them heavily, even if it led to a game that felt a bit too safe at times. That said, an effort was clearly made to not just make this repeat previous titles. Numerous fresh ideas were added that gave this game distinction over its predecessors. It could've used more of them, but they were able to add concepts that'll carry over nicely to D4.

The implications of this game's plot and events are unclear until that future fourth title, but Darksiders 3 avoids feeling like an experience that's running in place. It goes places that will progress the series undoubtedly.
