Dead Island 2: 10 Past Mistakes It Must Fix

5. Interesting Characters

A big issue in Dead Island was that no matter which character you picked to play as, they all seemed interchangeable. Aside from unique skills and abilities, the characters didn't have much in the way of personality, or if they did it was so cartoony that it still didn't work. With Dead Island 2, Yager should absolutely be focused on creating unique and compelling characters for the player to interact with. This is especially true if Dead Island 2 plans to follow along the same route as its predecessor, where the open-world RPG formula created a game that took almost thirty hours to complete. If Yager is planning to give us a twenty-five to thirty hour experience, then there needs to be some interesting characters to interact with. Allow us the option to form strong bonds with them, and avoid using the invincible NPC trope so that they can be killed if things go bad. Make us love them, then make it hurt.
