Dead Island 2: 10 Past Mistakes It Must Fix

4. Tighter Combat

While the combat of Dead Island is a lot of fun, there's a certain amount of player feedback that doesn't quite come through in the final product. When you swing that bat to crack a zombie's head open, it sort of feels like you're just hitting the air as opposed to flesh. The impact isn't quite there, and you often feel like you're just kids running around playing make believe instead of a tough zombie slayer. For Dead Island 2, all that impact from the weapons needs to be really felt by the player. Give the combat weight, so that when we swing our machete into a zombie's face, there's friction and contact. The more real the combat feels, the more immersion is afforded to the game, and the power fantasy of slaughtering countless shambling fools is a huge adrenaline rush when it's done right.
