Love it or hate it, there's no denying that there's literally nothing on the market today like Death Stranding. The obscure storytelling, the desolate world, the star-studded cast and the completely unique mechanics are so unbelievably exciting because we have seemingly never played anything like it.

Whether that's for better or for worse remains to be seen, but there's no denying that having completely original ideas like Death Stranding is only a positive for the games industry. We see generic shooters, bloated open-world collectathons and Destiny-like looter shooters hit our shelves every single year, but a game that tries to break the wheel comes very rarely.

It's exciting to consider the kind of completely alternative experience that awaits us when Death Stranding drops in November, largely because it's shrouded in mystery and intrigue. It could turn out to be an absolute disaster, but getting to experience a title that changes the essential rules of what video games should be and how they should play is easily one of the more exciting prospects for this year.

Kojima always make us think about video games and their potential as an interactive medium. With any luck, Death Stranding will continue the trend. However...
