Dungeons And Dragons 5e: How To Pick Your Class

11. Bard

Bard’s used to get a bad rap in Dungeons and Dragons. After all, these musically-inclined mages were often seen as getting the proverbial scraps from the table of the mighty wizard’s spellcasting ability, with little to distinguish themselves. That’s all changed in 5th Edition.

The Bard is an absolute powerhouse of a class, combining a multitude of skill proficiencies with spellcasting designed to enhance your allies and weaken your opponents. Bardic inspiration can be key in turning an ally’s failures into successes, while Cutting Words can grant a reprieve from an enemy’s death blow, enabling party members to regroup and turn the tide.

Couple that with the Lore Bard subclass’s Magical Secrets ability, one of the most formidable abilities in the game that lets you snag spells from any other spell list, and you can tailor-make a bard to sing whatever tune you so desire.

If you’re looking into a character with a big personality that can talk a big game while backing it up, the bard is playing your song.
