Dungeons And Dragons 5e: How To Pick Your Class
10. Cleric
Clerics are often thought to be the token healers of the group, which is outright incorrect. Healing is done in such a way in 5th Edition that most characters that pack the spell Healing Word can keep the party up long enough to win a fight. But more than that, a Cleric’s divine domain gives them enough flavor to channel the spirit of whatever god they follow.
Now admittedly, a Light Domain cleric is probably the most effective healer in the game, but a Tempest Domain cleric can unleash the wrath of thunder and lightning, while a Grave Domain cleric will temper the forces of death, preventing critical hits from effecting your party and maximizing healing abilities on dying allies.
The worship of a deity additionally provides some built-in lore for the class for role-playing purposes, and it’s never a bad idea to be working in the service of a higher power when fighting the unscrupulous forces you’re sure to run into. If you’re looking to a character with conviction, that isn’t afraid to mix it up in combat while also taking care of their friends, the Cleric is truly divine.
