Dungeons And Dragons: Ranking Every Official 5e Module Worst To Best
5. Waterdeep: Dragon Heist
This Module takes place in the city of Waterdeep and is set before the Dungeon of the Mad Mage. In this shortened adventure, players will go from level 1-5 as they explore different areas of the city and uncover a plot that involves a number of villainous characters.
The first thing that needs to be mentioned is that you don’t actually perform the heist. This may be disappointing for some players who are expecting to play through the module like a heist film. Your characters are more involved with investigation and uncovering plots.
The location and characters of this module are very well done and contain a lot of detail. It also has a rather unique feature. The DM has a choice of four different villains. Each of these can impact the plot in different ways. This gives the module a replay factor.
If there had to be one complaint, it would be about the villain’s lairs. A great deal of the book (60 pages) is used to describe each villain’s lair. This would be fine, but at no point do you visit these lairs. It is nice to have the background, and I guess you could use them in homebrew, but this seems a bit of an oversight.
This module is a perfect introduction for a new group to the world of Dungeons and Dragons, the urban setting and intrigue offers players a lot of different experiences and can prepare them for other adventures.
