Dungeons And Dragons: Ranking Every Official 5e Module Worst To Best

11. Out Of The Abyss

Rise Of Tiamat
Wizards Of The Coast

Most Dungeon and Dragon players know what the Underdark is. A labyrinth of subterranean caves that hold some of the most dangerous creatures of the world. Out of the Abyss is an adventure that is set in this deadly region. While your players may only start as slaves in a Drow prison, trying there best to survive, they will soon be fighting horrific monsters and stopping a demonic invasion.

The best parts of this campaign are during the first half of the book. Your players will be interacting with a vast array of different NPC’s as they attempt to survive in the Underdark. Unfortunately, this is let down a little by the second half of the book. Most of the time your party will be engaging in what feels like a pointless fetch quest. Most of the encounters at this point will also be underpowered, so they may have to be tweaked to give the party a challenge.

While this adventure can be a little difficult for the DM, as they try to keep track of so many NPCs, the real use of this book comes from its depiction of the underdark. If you simply wish to run your own homebrew in the Underdark, this book Is still recommended. Its descriptions of the environments and the enemies in it are much too useful to miss out on.
