Dungeons And Dragons: Ranking Every Official 5e Module Worst To Best

8. Storm Kings Thunder

Rise Of Tiamat
Wizards Of The Coast

Giants have been seen coming out of their strongholds. They are stealing crops, pillaging settlements, and enslaving the smaller races. But where is the storm giant King Hekaton? It is his job to control the giants. This adventure will take the party from level 1-11 as they are confronted by a giant’s civil war. The players will need to pick a side, build allegiances, and eventually stop the war.

The Storm Kings Thunder is a well-crafted sandbox style game. With the entirety of the sword coast to explore and information on 164 locations, your players shouldn’t run out of things to do. The game contains a great mix of roleplay, exploration, and combat. It never relies too much on one or another.

This can be a hard module for the DM to run through. With no real plot hook at the beginning and a lack of links between locations, a DM may have to tweak a few features to get the party going. Giants can also be extremely difficult to balance. One encounter could see your party destroying a giant with action economy, whereas another giant could nearly one-shot a player in a single turn.

Storm Kings Thunder is a great module to play and with a little tweaking by a good DM, it could be perfect.
