E3 2015: 12 Biggest Moments From Sony's PlayStation Conference

FINAL.FANTASY.VII.REMAKE.

Following Microsoft's opening one-two combo of backwards compatibility and VR headset-tech that actually proved impressive in a demo environment, it was going to take some mighty big guns for Sony to stroll in and stand a chance in terms of pure surprise factor. Well, after all was said and done, they proved if you throw enough money at something, any dream can come true - even near-mythical projects like 2009's frequently cancelled The Last Guardian (yes, really), Shenmue 3 and a goddamn Final Fantasy VII remake. The thing is, it's way to easy to hop on the "Holy s&%^" train due to the sheer unexpected magnitude of the announcements, but the reality is Sony didn't deliver on their first-party lineup whatsoever. For anyone going into E3 expecting to come out the other end with something lined up to play for the rest of the year, their response seemed to be "Erm... wait until 2016?", as even with a six year wait, The Last Guardian isn't dropping until then either. That's not to say the conference itself was anything other than a really fun thrill-ride, but you really got the sense that unlike Microsoft, Sony just didn't have anything first-party to show off, and were instead relying on a 'dreams can come true'-style pitch to reign in the punters. Did it work? Well....
