E3 2016: Battlefield 1 - 10 New Gameplay Details You Need To Know
1. The Story Mode Will Be Rooted In Actual History
Though you can obviously tell that DICE have taken massive liberties with history in their efforts to produce a game that is, ultimately, meant to be fun, it's still set during the early 20th Century. Point being, it's going to really aim to nail the reality of the time, at least in respect to the more mobile elements of the war.
It's not only maps and settings that will be heavily based on The Great War's setting, because actual units from the era are heading to the title as well. The Harlem Hellfighters are of course the most notable, having already named the pre-order edition along with having their own inspired outfits, weapons and missions to boot. That edition also promises to bring players to the deserts of Arabia with T.E. Lawrence, someone more widely known as the proclaimed 'Lawrence of Arabia', as well as one of the leading figures in the Arab Revolt.
Along with both the Hellfighters and Lawrence of Arabia, the pre-order edition comes complete with missions focusing on the notorious Red Baron - Germany's best remembered flying ace who became the scourge of the skies for British and French pilots navigating the Western Front. These packs are all drawing heavy inspiration from real life historical events and characters, which, along with the setting itself, is massively refreshing.
I'm positive I'm not the only one who's sick of the current saturated mess of the FPS market. We've had to put up with an unjustifiable amount of modern or near-future settings for some time now, so for a studio to turn back time, to an era that's never really been given that much thought in the genre - let alone the medium - is spectacular. Bravo DICE. Bravo.
