E3 2018: 13 Insane Announcements That Could Actually Happen

7. Sony Or Microsoft Acquires The Metal Gear IP From Konami

Hold onto your hats. With Metal Gear Survive receiving mixed reviews and flopping commercially, it's safe to say that Konami's prospects of keeping the franchise alive sans-Hideo Kojima are slim at best (beyond pimping the property out in pachinko machines until the end of time).

So, maybe, just maybe, Sony or Microsoft will announce during their conferences that they've obtained the rights to the Metal Gear franchise from Konami, with perhaps even an announcement of a FOX Engine remake of Metal Gear Solid.

How Likely Is It?: This is unquestionably wishful thinking, especially as Konami presumably still makes a pretty penny off the pachinko licensing, but if Sony or MS makes an aggressive, lucrative enough play for the IP, perhaps Konami could end up playing ball.

Then again, these sorts of business acquisitions are rarely announced at E3, even if Metal Gear would clearly be a special case. With Hideo Kojima busy at work on Death Stranding, it's an outside possibility at best given the requirement of his involvement, awesome though it would be all the same.
