E3 2018: 5 Ups & 5 Downs From Bethesda's Conference
Ups
5. Rage 2 Basically Steals The Show!?
Nobody could blame you if you were left unconvinced by Rage 2's middling initial reveal, but Bethesda sure made a far more persuasive play for the game at E3 with a terrific, show-stealing gameplay reveal.
The tight, concise sequence showed off Rage 2's ludicrous car combat, neat shooting mechanics, diverse array of grotesque enemies - including a troll-like monster wearing an American football helmet! - and general adrenaline-fuelled insanity.
Though Bethesda literally shilled the $120 collector’s edition - which features a monster's singing, severed head, voiced by Andrew W.K. no less - mid-way through the video, the tongue-in-cheek nature of the reveal made it a little easier to deal with.
Overall, Rage 2 is shaping up to be a visually stunning and shockingly intriguing effort. Considering the original game didn't make much of a splash at all and the sequel's first reveal fell a little flat, it's impressive that the game managed to be arguably the most compelling segment of the E3 showcase.
