E3 2019: 11 Leaked Video Games You're Not Supposed To Know About
5. Great Rune (George R.R. Martin & FromSoftware)
Literally sounding like the nerdiest dream ever coming true, it appears Game of Thrones' author George R.R. Martin has been co-writing a new RPG alongside FromSoftware's Hidetaka Miyazaki, to hopefully be shown on Microsoft's stage.
The final detail is only tacked on as Sekiro first showed up last year under Xbox branding (despite being multi-platform), but the details of Martin and Miyazaki's team-up are far more evidential.
First, word came from freelancer Liam Robertson and Youtube channel Spawn Wave that FromSoftware were lining up their next title, with the former stating there was a "bonkers" rumour we'd hear more about soon. Then after the Game of Thrones finale, GRR Martin wrote up his personal blog, stating that he was "consulting on a video game out of Japan".
Still, the two don't need to be connected - until website Gematsu revealed all.
Turns out they'd previously spoken to an insider on the project, and after Martin made the consultant side of things more official, a bigger info-dump revealed that FromSoftware and GRRM are working on a title codenamed "Great Rune" - an open-world, horse-riding Witcher-a-like where you acquire a set of abilities across a number of kingdoms.
Personally I'd much prefer this was a Game of Thrones tie-in, but with Hidetaka and George collaborating to create a fresh world, that's just as good.
