Just a day after Microsoft shadow-dropped Xbox Game Pass for PC, Ubisoft announced their own subscription-based service for PC, uPlay+.

For $14.99 a month, players will be able to get their hands on every single Ubisoft PC game, including over 100 of the publisher's current releases (such as Far Cry 5 and Assassin's Creed Odyssey), and also every upcoming release, including Watch Dogs: Legion and Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, the same day they hit all other storefronts.

The service launches on September 3, and Ubisoft is giving away a free month to anyone who signs up before August 15 - just remember to cancel the auto-renew!

Player response to the announcement has been wildly mixed because, honestly, are Ubisoft really going to offer up $180 of annual value gaming to most players?

There are only so many third-person shooters and open-world collect-a-thons people can play, so the service seems far more cost-effective as a periodical - sign up once every three or four months, rinse a bunch of games and repeat.

But of course, it also speaks to a wider concern about every publisher now seeking out their own subscription service, which may end up defeating any prospective money saved for gamers (unless they're conscientious about their subscriptions and constantly switch them up).
