Every Mainline Resident Evil Ranked From Worst To Best
11. Resident Evil 5
Resident Evil 5 continues where the fourth game left off with its action-horror-oriented gameplay. The big feature this time, however, is with the co-op system where throughout the entire campaign, the player is partnered up with either a player-controlled or AI companion.
Gameplay is smooth and fluid yet keeps enemy counters tense as hordes of Majini can often overwhelm our heroes. The graphics, even today, are stunning and uses Africa as a beautiful backdrop for the game's numerous horrific events. And though it has been meme'd to death, sequences like Chris Redfield punching a boulder remain some of the most entertaining parts of the franchise.
It's a shame, then, that despite these positives, the AI system was not fully tweaked. Since playing with a real person is the optimal choice, having a computer-controlled buddy could often mean a death sentence for gamers. Dim-witted and occasionally wasting key resources, your ally serves more as a hindrance and would go out of their way to get killed.
Finally, another big problem due to the co-op nature of the game is the limited inventory system which is a cardinal sin for an RE game.
