10. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis

Resident Evil 4 Remake
Capcom

Conceived as a spin-off title rather than a true third entry, 1999's Resident Evil 3: Nemesis would be the last game in the series to be released for the PlayStation.

As returning character Jill Valentine, the game only features one campaign but mitigates this by having different choices that add reply value. Another new addition is the dodge mechanic where the player can avoid unnecessary attacks with the press of a button. Finally, Nemesis pursues Jill throughout the game and is one of the most relentless video game characters of all time, following you around rooms and being persistent throughout.

But despite these innovations to the series, 3 is considered the weakest of the PlayStation games. Exploration was limited this time around and enemy variety was sorely lacking. The dodge mechanic, while a neat idea, was poorly implemented as well and even with decent amounts of practice, could lead to frustration.

Still, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis ended the PS1 era of the series on a decent note. Though nowhere as innovative as the first two games, it still has some entertaining moments and an intimidating villain to keep players entertained.
