Fallout 4: 10 Fan-Favourite Characters That Could Return

6. Liberty Prime

Fallout 3's towering monolith of destruction only really makes active appearances towards the end of the game's major quests, but his impact is such that it would be fantastic to see him return in a later game. Though he is destroyed by The Enclave through tactical nuclear strikes, Rothchild immediately begins work on rebuilding him to a working condition. There is, however, no timescale put on how long this may take, suggesting Bethesda may be holding the character back for use at some point in their series' future. What makes Liberty Prime such a memorable character is the duality in his presentation. He's literally a killing machine, but his demeanour and characterisation play cleverly on classic American war propaganda, being described to the player as a "hero". The very inclusion of the term 'Liberty' within his name and the name of his head-mounted 'Liberty Lasers' draws parallel with propaganda campaigns where American soldiers were referred to as Freedom Fighters, suggesting that their methods and motivations were the only truly correct ones. In the game, Prime seems even to be built from old propaganda materials with much of his dialogue quoting inspirational messages the constant confusion between his enemies in the Enclave and previous American enemies; the Chinese. Liberty Prime is one of Bethesda's more obvious commentaries on reality in the series, and his presentation is a tremendous success. Who's to say that seven years hasn't been enough time for the behemoth to have been fully rebuilt?
