Fallout 4: 10 Fan-Favourite Characters That Could Return

4. Father Elijah

While Doctor Mobius was undoubtedly a maniac, Father Elijah likely fills the role of being the series' truest madman. Elijah's nature makes him an almost pathological control freak, something which initially helped him gain power within the Brotherhood of Steel before ultimately revealing him to be self-serving and leading to his downfall. Elijah became obsessed with discovering the technology that he thought would help the Brotherhood defeat and overthrow the ruling NCR and his pursuit of this revealed his true nature to the other members of the Brotherhood. After desertion he crafted a scheme that he believed would finally help him accomplish this, which involved luring teams of unwitting companions to the vault and fitting them with explosive collars to force them into aiding him. After one failed attempt left him isolated in the vault, one faithful companion manages to bring the player to him to grant a last ditch attempt at obtaining the technology in the Dead Money expansion. Players ultimately manage to work with a team of other collars to reach the vault and confront Elijah, where the madman can be defeated or become a companion for players who are not particularly aligned with the NCR. Elijah presents players with the dangers of a man becoming so single-minded in a world where cooperation is the key to rebuilding and surviving, but his dangerous example is one that players could still be tempted with if he were to be revealed to still be alive in Fallout 4.
