7. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

With its thick jungle setting removing players (mostly) from the grey, mechanical landscapes of Metal Gear Solid 1 & 2, Snake Eater was somewhat of a departure for its players at first sight. In reality the experience was much of the same, but the new setting really added a layer of intensity to the experience. For a series built heavily around survival-by-stealth, Snake Eater was really the first MGS game to give players a reasonable arena in which to ply their trade. Making use of the jungle wilds and thick swamp to move around remaining lethally undetectable was at the forefront of success in Snake Eater. While stealth is an optional approach in the Fallout series, it hasn't ever been a very practical one. Even Skyrim failed to improve much on Bethesda's basic crouching approach, and so building some more natural hiding spots into the landscape of the Wasteland could see it become a real key for survival in number four. You can't get killed by something that can't see you, right?
