Fan-Casting The Legend Of Zelda TV Show

7. Link's Uncle - Patton Oswalt

Not every incarnation of Link has a parental figure. In fact, this uncle character only appears in A Link To The Past, with other similar figures being Link's grandfather in Minish Cap and grandmother in Wind Waker. Still, it makes perfect sense to bring in a loving uncle to nurture the young hero and - sadly - perish to provide him with development.

If an audience cannot invest in a mentor, they will struggle to bond with the protagonist's origins and eventual motivation. This is why it makes sense to cast Patton Oswalt, as he's one of the most likeable actors in the business. His frantic energy and goofy personality have made him stand out in projects like Ratatouille, Reno 911, and his litany of guest appearances.

While he's best known for his comedic chops, Oswalt can pull out some great dramatic performances. This can be seen in projects like Justified, Magnolia and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, where he captures severity while keeping the charming goofiness that made him so popular.

He's an actor you don't want to see suffer, so no doubt audiences would also feel they'd lost an uncle after his demise, just like Link.
