2. Gareth Bale (87)
I wrote in
my last FIFA ratings article that Gareth Bale was underrated with his rating of 87, but have since had time to revise my opinion. In actuality, all things considered, Bale is perhaps fortunate to receive his 87. Yes, the Wales international had a terrific season last term, with his 26 goals earning him a double swoop at the PFA Player of the Year Awards, but the truth is, that was the only successful campaign of his career. Previous seasons have been blighted by injury and poor form and his goal-scoring record has been nowhere consistent enough over the past three seasons for Bale to count himself among the Radamel Falcao's of the world - both virtual and real. True enough his excellent performances in 2012/13 deserve to be recognised, but the midfielder has a lot to prove and should perhaps not be considered for the 87 bracket until after he has proven himself year-on-year.
