When it was announced that Mesut Ozil was making the move to the Emirates last year for a reported £42.5 million many Arsenal fans couldnt believe it. Not only was it surprising that Real Madrid were willing to relinquish such a player but it was also shocking that the normally frugal top brass at Arsenal were willing to fork out all that money for the most expensive German player of all time. Ozils first few months at Arsenal were incredibly successful. The playmaker justified his hefty price tag, using his masterful passing to provide many assists including one in his debut for the club against Sunderland when he weaved a ball through for Olivier Giroud in the 11th minute. This fine form saw Ozil shortlisted for the prestigious Ballon dOr award alongside former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo. However, some of Ozils performances in the latter parts of the season were poor for a player of such obvious talent. At times the German international seemed disinterested in the game, often seen watching the ball rather than committing to a challenge. Overall an up and down debut season with Arsenal means that the speculation that Ozils rating has stayed the same in FIFA 15 seems justified. The attacking midfielder showed flashes of brilliance (most recently for Germany) which certainly justified his status as one of the highest rated players in EA Sports game but he didnt do enough to warrant an upgrade.
