FIFA 15: 10 Things EA Think You Don't Notice

3. That 'The Referee's A W****r'

It wouldn't be surprising if the colour yellow was the official sponsor of FIFA 14. Picture the scene: you are through on goal and the last defender cynically takes you out... yellow card. You casually tug on the shirt of the defender clearing the ball from his own half... yellow card. You ran into a player in the 3rd minute but play continued without pause until half time... yellow card. If you haven't noticed the number of yellow cards that you receive for innocuous challenges then EA must really be laughing. Beyond the card wielding frenzies, there are a huge number of discrepancies between what constitutes as a foul or not. In some games, shirt pulling is punishable by death but in others, the referee won't bat an eyelid. If EA brought in a scoring system for referee's and scored them on performance, it would make for a neat function. Players are rated, they have good and bad days, so do officials. Making mistakes and questionable decisions is a part of the modern game and, although we hate it when it happens to our teams, we secretly love the entertainment that it brings. It isn't necessarily a problem to have these mistakes in the game - in career mode anyway - it would make for a more accurate reflection, but currently there are too many made and you are left feeling somewhat shafted by the powers that be.
