If ever a player had a lucky escape from tarnishing his reputation, it was when Thiago Silva picked up a needless booking in the World Cup quarter-final clash with Columbia, thus ruling him out of the 7-1 humbling by Germany. Of course, had the PSG centre-half been playing, the outcome may have been far different, as it may have actually possessed a semblance of organisation, but there is a reason why David Luiz doesn't feature in EA Sports' top 50. Remaining unchanged from last season's placing of 16th, Thiago Silva is still regarded as one of the finest defenders in world football by the men in white coats at EA Sports. Having produced another stellar season for PSG, appearing 42 times in all competitions as he captained Laurent Blanc's side to a second Ligue 1 triumph, he also turned in an impressive World Cup outing, despite the failings of his lesser international comrades.
15. Sergio Ramos - 87
FIFA 14 Rank: 30th
Last season was quite possibly Sergio Ramos' best season of his career. While he has enjoyed immense success at international level, those seasons were slightly besmirched by failures at domestic level. However, last season not only did the Spanish centre-half manage to find a rich vein of goal-scoring form, but he played a crucial role in the winning of 'La Decima' for Los Blancos. Shocking the Allianz Arena with two goals in the semi-final, before nodding home a priceless injury-time equaliser against cross-city rivals Athletico in the final, Ramos undoubtedly etched his name into the Real Madrid history books. Rising 15 places in the FIFA 15 rankings may look hefty, especially following his World Cup nightmare with Spain, but the former Sevilla man has certainly established himself as one of the finest defenders in world football.
