When Manchester City were hit by UEFA's Financial Fair Play fine, they were forced to cut their wage bill, and start recouping some of the millions they have spent, by shipping out some of their top earners.

Negredo was one of the first to go, and was initially loaned out to Valencia CF, though with a clause which stated Valencia must purchase the player on a permanent deal at the end of the season for a reported €27 million. At the time it looked like a steal. He'd just scored 26 goals in 52 appearances for the English champions, but he well and truly failed to live up to what was expected of him, scoring only 6 times in 33 appearances.

His original rating of 83 may have seemed low at the beginning of the season, but as the months passed, it has looked more and more like an overestimation than under.

It's maybe to be expected though, as he's approaching the wrong side of 30, and it appears as though his career is already in decline. Valencia will be kicking themselves that they're paying such an astronomical fee for a 6 goal-a-season player.

Álvaro Negredo Recommended Rating: 79
