Jose Maria Gimenez is rightly regarded as one of the most promising CBs in world football today. Joining Atletico Madrid in 2013, the Uruguayan hasn’t quite established himself as first choice in Diego Simeone’s side yet, but he’s an outstanding prospect in FIFA 17, and if you can afford him, he should be considered a must sign. Gimenez is someone who can anchor your defence for years, and he’s good enough to be an immediate starter for any side.

Gimenez starts with an 83 overall rating, and should comfortably improve to 88. Stats wise, he’s can all-round behemoth. Heading is his only real defensive weakness, but at 78, it’s far from terrible. His marking, tackling, jumping, and strength stats are all in the 85-90 range, with his “Tackler” speciality making Gimenez a particularly robust defender. Very few attackers are capable of getting the better of him, particularly when he levels up.

The downside? Gimenez is going to cost you a pretty penny. His starting value is £11m, and while that doesn’t seem too prohibitive, Atletico are likely to drive a hard bargain. Gimenez is Alteti’s most promising defensive player, but if you’ve got the requisite funds, he’ll never let you down.
