Final Fantasy XV: 12 Hands-On First Impressions

9. Driving Is Very Clunky

Traveling between quests is largely done in the Regalia, the already-iconic car Noctis and his pals drive around in.

The player is given two options, to allow Ignis to drive to destinations while you soak in the scenery, or take manual control yourself (as will be required at night time, as Ignis refuses to drive then).

Auto-driving is fine to a point thanks to the gorgeous sprawling vistas and character banter, and the game smartly allows you to fast-travel to some locations. However, manual driving is, well, awful.

The driving controls and mechanics are so low-effort that it's hard to believe they weren't just tacked-on late in the day. You're kinda-on-rails but at the same time not, and it results in an experience that doesn't feel remotely fun. It could be removed from the game with basically no impact at all.
