Final Fantasy XV: 5 Awesome Things (And 5 That Suck)
9. The World Is Fantastically Unique
When XV was first unveiled as this weird 'road trip through Final Fantasy-style lands' aesthetic, fans were a little skeptical. However, enough purpose and passion will convert any naysayer to pretty much anything, and luckily even from the beginning of the demo you wake up full of purpose in a self-made campsite, ready to start the day Monster Hunter-style. The MH comparisons aside - there's no skinning here! - the whole thing is a fantastic blend of modern technology and real-world locations like sports cars, gas stations and trailer parks all mixed with the fantastical set-pieces you've come to know and love. Chocobos roam the lands, screen-dominating bosses are there for the taking and other creatures seemingly about their business both in the distance and at your feet. The overall 'wow factor' of Final Fantasy hasn't been this immediate in too long, and once you embark on your next foray across the wilderness whilst your three fellow characters are providing commentary on the goings on of the cities and area around you - it's this mix of social-relatability and escapism no other franchise gets quite so right.
