6. Combat Will Divide People - Here's The Good...
So yeah, the combat in XV is - like Type-0 before it and Kingdom Hearts to a certain degree - is pretty much Dragon Age meets Monster Hunter; except with a lock-on. The coolest thing is Noctis can equip five weapons at once, all materialising in his hands in different orders as you dole out everything from first strikes to drop-attacks, parries and finishers. It's a slick way of getting around too much inventory switching, and you'll experiment with what having each weapon in each slot means when its respective point comes in battle. That, and cycling through a range of special attacks like leaping spear-jumps and enemy HP-draining stabs with the D-pad before unleashing them whenever you have enough MP. So far so good. Now, there's also the ability to warp up and away from danger or take cover behind objects whenever things get too heated, a dedicated block button to avoid attacks and if you time it right, weapon-specific counters. There are even incredibly satisfying double-counters where another member of the group will literally jump in for a finisher if they're in proximity against larger enemies. However...
