The first thing to pay attention to when it comes to putting your squad together are the various unit types. There are two key components to a unit’s type: its Movement Style and its Weapon Type.

There are four different Movement Styles: Infantry, Armoured, Cavalry, and Flying. A Hero’s Movement Style affects the distance they can move and the terrain they can cross.

Infantry units: Can move 2 spaces per turn, or 1 space through forest.

Armoured units: Can only move 1 space per turn, including through forest.

Cavalry units: Can move 3 spaces per turn, but cannot enter forests.

Flying units: Can move 2 spaces per turn, regardless of the terrain (they can even fly over otherwise impassable terrain such as mountains or rivers).

You can check a character’s Movement Style by clicking the Plus symbol on the unit portrait in the top-left of the screen when they are selected (either in the menus or on the battlefield). It’s up to you what you favour - standard Infantry are good all-rounders, but don’t excel in any one area.

Armoured units may be slow, but they tend to be stronger than normal. Cavalry can chase units down quickly but might find some maps difficult to navigate. Flying units are the most maneuverable, but suffer an additional weakness against Bow attacks.
