Not quite as gung-ho as the previous 4-2-4 formation on this list, this tactic is about exploring with your two wide forward players.

Having an Advanced Playmaker and a Raumdeuter on either side of the pitch means that the gap you can see in midfield will be filled by clever drop-in play. The Raumdeuter will naturally drift in and out of a game depending on when space appears, whereas the Advanced Playmaker will forever offer themselves up to receive the ball and look to tie attacks together.

As such - particularly due to the Raumdeuter - it's important to have a pair of robust deeper midfielders, with any pairing of Ball Winning Midfielder, Defensive Midfielder and Anchor able to provide suitable cover here. It also helps to play a Deep Lying Forward who will drop off to fill some of the space in midfield.

In terms of your actual defence here, a couple of attacking Wing Backs will help throw a few more bodies forward to support your front four, with those WBs part of a setup that involves getting the ball out wide to the creative figures in the Advanced Playmaker and Raumdeuter positions.
