1. It's Basically More Of The Same

The overall feeling once the credits roll on Ascension is that it is basically more of the same, and on the whole, that's not really a bad thing. Though it struggles to live up to the near-perfect fusion of scale and violence that the previous games managed, there's no doubting the confidence of the product; it's slick, savagely entertaining, and were it in any franchise other than God of War, it'd probably end up with many more 5-star reviews than it's liable to get. It doesn't reinvent the wheel or indeed refine it, but it mostly delivers what fans will want - chaotic mayhem over a lengthy, bloody campaign. When so many franchises are watering things down and shortening their single-player offerings in favour of multiplayer, it's nice to see one series that holds steadfast.
