Half-Life Alyx: 13 Biggest Questions Answered For New Fans
11. Who Is The G-Man?
Without a doubt the most mysterious figure in gaming, G-Man looms around all Half-Life games, keeping an eye on his "employees" and making sure everything goes according to plan.
To begin with, it was him who caused the Black Mesa Incident, unknowing to anyone at the time. A sickly man in a suit gives the Xen test crystal to Eli Vance (Alyx's father), before the Resonance Cascade occurs, opening the rifts.
G-Man isn’t Combine, from what we can tell (more on them in a bit). We’re also not sure if he’s with them or against them.
Though, it’s likely he’s playing his own little game. A game comparable of chess, perhaps, where the pieces are humans such as Gordon Freeman, Alyx and Eli Vance and others.
Our next taste of the G-Man will undoubtedly be in Half-Life: Alyx, as there is a small relationship there, even before the events of Half-Life 2.
These events were the near-death of Alyx and a message given from G-Man spoke of unforeseen consequences, which is what G-Man had said years earlier to Eli at Black Mesa, before the portals opened.
Shortly after, Alyx tells her father to "prepare" for said consequences, but he dies from a Combine invasion. The implication is that the G-Man, upset with Gordon and Alyx, notified the Combine of their eventual location.
In conclusion, the G-Man and Alyx have history, both post-Half-Life: Alyx and during the Black Mesa Incident, meaning we'll hopefully be seeing a lot of him in Half-Life: Alyx.
As for the Combine though, let's clear them up.
