HBO's The Last Of Us: 9 Scenes We Want To See
3. Tommy's Firefly Days
As we mentioned earlier, Tommy was previously a member of the Fireflies - a militia group who revolted against the military's oppression following the Cordyceps outbreak - joining the group after parting ways with Joel. This stretch of the narrative's timeline isn't something we see visually in the game as the story skips from Outbreak Day straight to present day.
The Fireflies play a key role in both The Last of Us and The Last of Us Part II so it seems only apt that we explore their history in addition to Tommy's. We know that Tommy spent some of his Firefly days based in the Denver quarantine zone where his cell was tasked with bombing military checkpoints.
Both FEDRA troops and civilians were injured in the bombings so Tommy might not have the moral high ground he believes he has when compared to his big brother Joel.
As a Firefly, Tommy also encountered the Washington Liberation Front - a key faction in The Last of Us Part II (and a potential season two). Featuring this could be a fun tease as to what lies ahead.
Most importantly though, Tommy's Firefly days are revealing of how society came to be so divided following the outbreak.
