HBO's The Last Of Us: 9 Scenes We Want To See
2. Outbreak Day - Hospital Scenes
Outbreak Day is hugely important in The Last of Us.
Without it, the world would simply be functioning normally - blissfully unaware of such a thing as the Cordyceps virus - but that's just not the case. In HBO's The Last of Us, we should see Joel's experiences of Outbreak Day as we do in the game, but it would be interesting to see the wider context of this huge event.
The Last of Us Part II actually provides us with a greater insight into Outbreak Day. Abby visits what has come to be known as 'Ground Zero' in Lakehill Seattle Hospital - the epicentre of the outbreak in Seattle. During her visit, we have the option to read various collectible written documents left behind by both staff and patients on Outbreak Day.
These documents reveal how patients were left in their rooms locked up and abandoned as they slowly lost their minds - completely unaware of the horror they would slowly become. Others detail how staff were trapped inside the hospital, unable to go home and eventually becoming exposed to the virus themselves - or falling victim to their ravenous patients.
If you haven't taken the time to read these collectibles, do so on your next playthrough as they provide invaluable insight into what must have been a terrifying event to live through.
Hopefully, HBO can lift inspiration from this and detail the day visually.
