Hidden Agenda: 7 Things You Need To Know About Supermassive Games' New IP
5. It's More Of A Thriller Than A Horror
As mentioned earlier, Hidden Agenda is definitely influenced in at least some degree by Until Dawn. However, there are some differences.
Where as Until Dawn was definitely a horror game, Hidden Agenda looks to be more of a thriller. There will be some horror elements, such as tone, environment, and a serial killer as the main antagonist, but it doesn't appear to be quite as frightening as its predecessor.
Hidden Agenda looks more to have a "psychological horror" aspect to it, similar to Heavy Rain, another narrative- and character-driven video game. Hidden Agenda will instead focusing on building tension and shocking the player using the thread of the storyline.
Hunting a sadistic serial killer should definitely have some horror aspects to it. Expect to stumble upon some truly terrifying murder scenes. However, The Trapper should be a frightening foe based on their actions, not on their ability to jump out from behind corners.
In a market currently proliferated with jump-scare driven horror games, taking a more subtle approach will allow Hidden Agenda to become a more unique and memorable experience. If Supermassive Games manages to strike the right tone, they will have constructed one of the best games of its kind.
