Horizon Forbidden West: 10 Confirmed Details You NEED To Know

2. Beasts Of War

Horizon Forbidden West
Guerrilla Games

In Horizon Zero Dawn, Aloy learns to override the machines early on. It is one of the fundamental mechanics of Zero Dawn and enables Aloy to create mounts and allies out of otherwise hostile machines.

Aloy picks up this nifty trick after defeating a corruptor, a hostile machine that spreads the corruption throughout other machines. Aloy salvaged the component that can override, attached it to her spear and away she goes, turning hostile grazers into trusty steeds.

The ability to override also nets Aloy a lot of unwanted attention, like the enigmatic Sylens watching her override machines via her Control. Fair play to the guy, he did use his newly learned tricks to come and save Aloy from the Eclipse, but we still don't trust him.

On that note, it looks as though Sylens has passed his knowledge on to his latest band of ruffians as we see the new tribe taming a wild boar-like machine towards the end of the trailer, Sylens overlooking them like a proud teacher. Mathijs De Jonge comments on this, saying that 'some of the new tribes have acquired the knowledge to override the machines and use them as "Beasts of War".'
