5. It’s Obviously Been Made By Fans

Talking to Graham Goring - a charming, self-effacing delight - reveals a couple of things that have played key parts in the LEGO The Force Awakens development. First, his enthusiasm to research the Star Wars universe is obvious (he says he hit the books hard), but that’s all the more astonishing because he’s already obviously a big fan.

The result is that the game is a treasure trove for Star Wars fans - and not just ones who are fans of The Force Awakens. Creatures and droids that were throw-away parts of the original series are included (tiny Dianogos appear in the Admiral Akbar level and Sleen were mentioned in the presentation and that’s only a small cross-section) and background gags are full of call-backs.

It’s a lore-heavy but entirely accessible jumping in point that could actually send fans back to what now remains as canon. And while the new stories (like the story of the Crimson Corsair) won’t be accepted as real canon, their proximity with such carefully built lore gives them further legitimacy.
