There's a general rule of thumb when it comes to rumours: consider the source.

That may make this one hard to swallow, but Cleveland.com (ahem) predict that Browns QB Baker Mayfield is a strong candidate to land the cover star slot in Madden 20. Their logic? Well, it's about damn time the NFL's playmaking position was back on the front of the box. Tom Brady, predictably, was the last in 18. Before that, it was Drew Brees in 2011.

Aside from the sketchiness of the site naturally favouring Freddie Kitchens' AFC upstart revolution, they do make some valid points. Mayfield was a revelation in his first season in Cleveland, and his mix of confidence, skills and leadership has the NFL talking. Plus, sophomore players have graced the cover before.

In 2016, it was Odell Beckham Jr, and this year it could be his new ball handler at the Browns. In what is set to be a big season for fans in Ohio, Madden 20 could be the game of their dreams. The 'Dawg Pound' would be proud.
