Magic: The Gathering: 10 Most Powerful Artifacts In 2020 Standard
6. Sorcerous Spyglass
Sorcerous Spyglass allows you to take a cheeky peek at your opponent’s hand, giving you key information about how their next couple of turns are going to play out.
You then name a card and any activated effects of the named card cannot be activated. This effect is so powerful and harkens back to the days of Pithing Needle but this time we have the information and know what to name as we have just looked at their hand.
Using Sorcerous Spyglass we can mana screw our opponent if they have Fabled Passage or Evolving Wilds in their hand as they will be unable to crack their fetch land. This line of play extremely relevant in eternal formats like Modern.
It stops ANY planeswalker from activating their plus or minus abilities and makes any draw of the same card by our opponent a dead card until they remove Sorcerous Spyglass.
Most importantly it stops all creature abilities, most notably in Standard Priest of the Forgotten Way and Woe Rider, removing the sacrifice outlet for the latter and Lurrus of the Dream Den decks is huge.
