Mass Effect Andromeda: 12 Critical Reactions You Need To Know

4. The Erratic Difficulty Level Might Annoy Some Players

"The difficulty curve here is…uneven. The game starts out hard. Very hard. Like, I died in the tutorial mission. But once you rack up a few powers and get a wider arsenal, the game just keeps getting easier and easier until once you reach the end and it’s practically impossible to die...I was still having fun, but it’s only in the middle of the game that you get the “right” level of challenge. You may want to adjust your difficulty settings accordingly." - Forbes
"Enemies aren’t too smart, nor are they particularly varied - this game simply ramps up the difficulty by throwing more bad-guys at you. And there’s a special place in hell reserved for the Kett boss types, who can only be damaged once you’ve destroyed the tiny orb that rotates around them. Which regenerates. And they can one-hit kill you." - Gamesradar
"Many of the fights can last in excess of fifteen minutes without saving, so move constantly, plan effectively, and fire with reckless abandon." - God is a Geek

The three prior games did a remarkable job of balancing the difficulty level and ensuring that the more standard fare shoot-outs were occasionally interrupted by skill-testing boss battles.

Andromeda seems much more inconsistent in this regard, with many calling out the bizarre checkpoint system (which will often make you repeat tedious planetary scanning ahead of an intense firefight), irritatingly spongy enemies, and also the fact that the game's final boss appears to be rather on the easy side.

Obviously players can toy with the difficulty should they wish, but the out-of-the-box balance doesn't really seem to be there.
