3. Urdnot Wrex
Like Kaidan and Ashley, Wrex is in either one game or all three. The original Krogan companion was iconic and simply a blast in the first game. The possible choice to shoot him dead on Virmire was one of the first instances that your choices actually have consequences, but honestly no one would want to kill a character that was this much fun.
After he left the Normandy, Wrex grew in acclaim and status on his home world to the point where he unites all the Krogan clans of Tuchanka to face the Reaper threat. His increase in power doesn't change his friendship with Shepard however, which is particularly touching.
Wrex is boisterous and aggressive but also fiercely loyal which made him a great companion. In the phenomenal Citadel DLC for the final game (which itself felt like a celebration of all these characters), Wrex got a chance to re-join the crew and go on missions with Shepard which was one of the most satisfying inclusions to a stellar DLC.
Wrex may very well be the most synonymous companion when you consider squad mates in Mass Effect and that's a testament to a great character who was only on the Normandy for one full game.
